Description

Reporting to the Food Services Coordinator and working as a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Cook is responsible for the planning, coordinating and functioning of the dietary needs of the residents and families of Agapé Hospice in accordance with the Hospice mission and vision. The Cook will also ensure that safety is always considered first when performing the various performance requirements within this position description, including but not limited to reducing risks for self and others, and maintaining safety standards at an acceptable level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

a) Cooking: Prepares sufficient amounts of food for residents, guests and for catered functions according to established menu rotation. · Reviews menus and makes any suggestions for changes to the Food Services Coordinator, in consultation with caregiving staff. · Coordinates food preparation and service in the kitchen. · Stores perishable food and avoids waste as per established guidelines.

b) Service: Maintains sanitary regulations in the work area. · Advises the Food Services Coordinator regarding inventory of kitchen equipment & utensils and assists in the purchasing of items as delegated. 20% · Checks accuracy and presentation of served food · Checks menu items and recommendations as required.

c) Quality Improvement: Participates in department and Quality Improvement activities

d) Communication: Informs Food Services Coordinator of unsafe equipment or conditions and food supply concerns (e.g. Food shortages, food quality concerns, supply availability) § Completes written report where required

e) Other: Attends meetings and workshops/in-service's. Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.

Education/Certifications: Journeyman cook certification preferred, completion of WHMIS, food handling and safety training required, CPR, First Aid

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

1-3 years elementary technical/professional experience; institutional or health care food services experience required.
