ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta is currently recruiting for a temporary HR Coordinator to join our HR Connect team for 12 months. This position provides service to all TransAlta employees for regular and consistent HR practices within the employee life cycle, such as full cycle recruitment, planning, and annual performance management processes. This role will also be responsible to provide analytical support to the HR team and will contribute to improvement projects while driving innovation. In addition, this role answers questions from employees and leaders regarding pension and benefits, annual processes, payroll, policies and procedures etc.

This is a temporary 12-month, full-time salaried position based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide leaders with recruitment and onboarding support within the defined process to ensure an exceptional new hire experience including posting positions, screening resumes, sourcing candidates, participating in interview process and arranging pre-hire checks, writing offer letters and initiating the onboarding process
  • Manage the transactional inquiries and duties with HR for all business units. The HR Coordinator interfaces directly with employees, supervisors, and leaders, utilizing Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge of HR processes and systems to educate clients and remove barriers
  • Provide tactical support to HRBP's and HR Managers on projects and assignments. This includes all annual core processes related to the employee lifecycle (goal setting, performance reviews, compensation planning, succession planning)
  • Answer general employee or leader questions regarding HR model, annual processes, systems, pension and benefits, position reports, timelines
  • Manage HR content and access on the HR Intranet and SharePoint, and maintaining HR Records

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business or a related degree
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in human resource with broad based generalist experience including recruitment
  • Identify potential and existing problems and create effective solutions to address them following appropriate analysis
  • Interpret and apply HR common practices into TransAlta standards and policies
  • Efficiently use SAP, Success Factors and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Professionally interact with people and maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrate service-oriented approach with ability to listen and provide assistance in a timely manner
  • Willing to work flexible hours as required to support a geographically broad client group

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:

  • Knowledge of employment law and employment standard and exposure to HR practices
  • Capability to understand the business and create the link between HR strategy and business strategy
