THE POSITION

The Financial Analyst will be responsible for providing financial planning and analysis and reporting to support assigned business partners in understanding the financial performance of their operations, making business decisions, as well as assisting with their budgeting, forecasting and special reporting needs. The Financial Analyst will also support special reporting requirements for leagues such as the NHL, CFL, NLL, and WHL).

The position is a temporary fixed term contract.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership

  • Be the primary finance contact for the Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Roughnecks and Corporate Services providing financial oversight and support.
  • Create and foster effective working relationships with finance team members, business partners and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to maintaining a cohesive, engaged and positive team.

Financial

  • Oversee financial operations, together with the President of Calgary Stampeders and Vice-President of Calgary Roughnecks.
  • A focus on analysis and P&L/Balance Sheet management for all Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Roughnecks and Corporate Services activities in CSEC with a goal to be the financial expert for the above noted departments including:
    • Analyzing current and past trends in key performance indicators ("KPIs").
    • Monitoring KPIs, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variance.
    • Analyzing financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes partnering with finance accounting team members to investigate matters as required.
    • Preparing internal monthly financial statements, management reports and financial analysis.
    • Leading meetings with business partners to discuss their financial performance results, recommend improvement opportunities and advise on areas of concern.
    • Assisting with interim and year-end financial audit requests.

Planning & Budgeting

  • Ensure financial rigor and discipline is injected into budgets and forecasts for Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Roughnecks and Corporate Services.
  • Identify and implement/assist with implementing process improvements for budget, forecast and planning activities.
  • Assist business partners with BI360 usage.

CFL, NLL and other League reporting:

  • Prepare CFL Team Stabilization Program.
  • Respond to CFL Team Stabilization Program audit queries as required.
  • Prepare HRR and URO for areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare monthly and periodic reports to the CFL and NLL with respect to Operations.

Other

  • Actively participate in safety programs and follow policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

THE INDIVIDUAL

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • Recent experience in a financial planning and analysis position.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and Word skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and Solver BI360 is a plus.
  • Experience with key performance indicator-based reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
