For this exciting position we are ideally targeting students with a background in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering. We are looking for students with good communication and interpersonal skills, an analytical mentality, strong time management skills, and a drive to learn. You will have the opportunity to work out of the Calgary or Vancouver office as well as to visit some of Teck's operating and closed mine sites. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Salary Range: $4,700 - $6,000 / Month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

  • Participation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day

  • Supports the Tailings and Geotechnical team teams with a focus on managing and coordinating geotechnical and governance data and information

  • Provide geotechnical support to Corporate tailings team and site tailings teams

  • Support the implementation of Teck's geotechnical and tailings governance programs (e.g. MAC Tailings Management Protocol, internal standards, GISTM)

  • Coordinate activities and information sharing with Consultants, site teams and other Teck teams

  • Support continual improvement and innovation ideas related to tailings and geotechnical topics

Qualifications

  • Working towards a degree in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering

  • Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously

  • Comfortable working in a multifaceted work environment with a willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our sites, in various weather conditions and terrain. Valid Canadian driver's license is a requirement

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel

  • Understanding of geotechnical investigation and analyses, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, instrumentation/monitoring systems, or geotechnical infrastructure (i.e. open pits, waste rock dumps, dams, tailings storage facility) design principles would be an asset
