The Opportunity
The Reg Erhardt Library facilitates excellence in teaching, research, and learning through the provision of authoritative information resources and community-driven programs. By providing equitable access to print and digital collections, innovative technology, and learner-focused spaces, the Library creates an inclusive environment which supports creative inquiry at SAIT.
The Library is seeking an enthusiastic and forwarding-thinking professional who is dedicated to supporting student learning and teaching information literacy. The Instruction Librarian reports to the Manager, Library, Archives, and Copyright and will participate in the Library Instruction program, delivering information literacy instruction sessions to SAIT students across a variety of schools and programs. The successful candidate will also provide reference and research services, contribute to library reporting, and work collaboratively on other projects as required. This position would appeal to an energetic librarian that enjoys teaching and working with post-secondary students and faculty.
The Role
Library Instruction - 50%
Provide instruction for the Library's information literacy instruction program. The incumbent is responsible for providing high quality instruction and training to SAIT students and staff by:
Staying abreast of current trends and best practices in the areas of information literacy and andragogy.
Developing and presenting instructional classes to on-campus and online students.
Assisting in planning and developing the library instruction program
Research Support - 30%
Provide Research support for students, faculty and staff, as required.
Provide circulation and reference services at the Information Desk.
Special Projects - 20%
Assist manager and other librarians with projects related to assessment, collections, instruction, open education, scholarly activity, communications, library reporting, or other functions, as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum: Master's degree in Library and Information Science or Information Studies from an ALA accredited university.
Preferred:
One year of academic library experience is preferred, however new graduates are encouraged to apply.
Experience or familiarity with planning and delivering instruction, especially information literacy and research skill specific instruction.
Experience providing reference and research supports.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills and facilitation skills.
Knowledge of online information resources and systems.
Familiarity with academic library issues and trends, especially those related to library instruction.
Familiarity with Information Literacy theory, practice and assessment.
Proficiency in the use of general and subject-specific print and electronic reference resources.
Proficiency with technology, integrated library systems, mobile devices, apps, web development tools, and e-resources (e.g. Libguides, Learning management systems, eBooks).
Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to serve as a professional ambassador of the library by maintaining a professional image and demonstrating exceptional public-speaking skills.
Commitment to engaging with patron feedback and continuously improving services.
Capacity to thrive in an environment of change and respond effectively to shifting needs and priorities.
