The School of Business is one of the largest business schools in Western Canada. We deliver programming to more than 3,000 students in credit programs annually. Our degrees, diplomas, certificates, and courses are aligned to industry and designed to meet the needs of today's employers. Programming areas include accounting, financial services, human resources, management, supply chain, marketing, administrative, legal, and more.
We are currently recruiting a casual contract instructor to facilitate a course (or courses) as follows: LIBR251 (Integrated Library Technology) and MKTG360 (Library Marketing) in the full-time program, taught synchronously, for the winter semester (Jan-Apr 2025).
Reporting to the Academic Chair, you will be a self-starter, have a passion for facilitating applied learning for others as well as a passion for lifelong learning. You will professionally facilitate the learning process of the students and support students in achieving established learning outcomes to the maximum of their potential. You will make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies to ensure student success. You are expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a student-centered learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature. You must be able to demonstrate excellence in your communication skills, organizational skills and have the ability to function in a collaborative team environment.
The Role
Facilitate all course materials including assignments, evaluations, examinations, and learning activities.
Evaluate student progress and facilitate student achievement, including responding to emailed inquiries within two business days.
Create an open and inclusive learning environment and show personal interest in student success.
Collaborate with faculty colleagues teaching the same course to support consistency across sections.
Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners and potential learners.
Participate in orientation and training activities as assigned.
Promote and support SAIT's strategy and the School of Business and academic plans.
Adhere to all of SAIT's policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
The incumbent will possess:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in business, education or communications
Specific library experience would be ideal
Candidates with one or more related professional designations, while not necessary, will be given preference.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Teaching, training, and/or mentoring experience are considered an asset.
Candidates with experience teaching one or more of the courses listed in the job overview may be given preference.
Key skills include:
Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with large groups verbally and in writing (public speaking competence).
Positive and respectful attitude.
Ability to work autonomously to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Basic computing skills in Microsoft office applications
