The Opportunity
The School of Construction is seeking a full-time temporary instructor for our Pipe Trades Apprenticeship & Pre-Employment Pipetrades programs.
As an instructor, you will create a supportive and innovative learning environment, utilizing existing curriculum resources and a variety of instructional techniques to promote learning and personal development. In addition to creating teaching and learning plans, course maps, and assessments, you will provide ongoing support and guidance to learners, evaluate student progress and achievement, and participate in promotional activities such as SAIT’s Open House.
The Role
Prepare and present lesson plans, lectures, course materials, assignments, and learning activities in support of learning objectives
Educate students utilizing existing curriculum resources and utilize a variety of instructional techniques to promote learning and personal development
Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
Evaluate student progress and achievement
Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
Demonstrate personal interest in the success of the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
Maintain and develop relationships with academic colleagues and industry partners
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Alberta Journeyperson Certificate and Red Seal in one of Plumber, Steam Fitting/Pipefitting or Gasfitting trades
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Journeyperson in a variety of installation and service environments is desired
Prior teaching or training experience in adult education is an asset
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Knowledge & Skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and presentation software
Strong communication and human relations skills with the ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles.
Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in a consultative decision-making process
