Overview of role:

We are looking for an Intermediate Product Owner to join our Mobile Apps team to help build an elevated guest experience. Working alongside the Portfolio Manager and a group of like-minded product owners, developers, and stakeholders, you'll help to build and execute a mobile first strategy to improve guest experience and increase engagement.

The ideal candidate will have experience delivering successful apps in iOS and Android, a strong understanding of best practices in mobile UX and technology, and expert product management skills. They will also be a champion for digital channel performance, delivery and passionate about product development. They will have experience driving app acquisition, conversion, loyalty program engagement, and/or personalization across the platform. This individual should exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoy challenges, be results-driven, and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment.

Key deliverables include:

  • Writing user stories, creating and prioritizing features within the product backlog
  • Contribute to team deliverables and timelines related to projects, resolving conflicting priorities or removing scope where needed
  • Support product initiatives including user research and discovery, development of user flows, wireframes, and stories (with UX/Design), and ongoing optimization in an Agile manner using Scrum methodology
  • Support in defining key metrics for digital initiatives and projections/estimated impact, while serving as a champion for digital channel performance
  • Research, recommend and lead implementation, where applicable, and suggest enhancements based on the analysis of competitive digital channels and industry trends
  • Support relationships with internal and external stakeholders to gather well-defined requirements in line with business objectives and manage expectations as well as gain sign off on deliverables
  • Influence and assist with strategic product vision for WestJet through assigned digital touch points
  • Provide analysis and implementation recommendations for all digital enhancements
  • Proactively present key digital reports to stakeholders, and outline recommendations
  • Knowledge, advocation and delivery of brand tone and digital styling across all digital touch points
  • Identify and develop solutions to understand guest pain points and growth opportunities, along with evaluating mobile app market trends.
  • Build close, collaborative relationships with developers, design, user experience research and IT partners
  • Work with teams across the organization to develop and implement go-to-market plans that drive app usage and create awareness of mobile functionality and the value our apps deliver.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Completed Diploma or Bachelor's Degree (Technical/ Business/ Science)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in digital or emerging technology
  • 3+ years of experience working with a mobile product (Knowledge in accessibility, e-commerce, travel, profile, or loyalty is an added benefit)
  • Experience managing mobile design with a large consumer footprint
  • Technical understanding of mobile operating systems (iOS, Android)
  • Experience working in and leading cross-functional teams in an agile environment
  • Experience defining scope and managing key deliverables for large projects
  • Experience with software development and an appreciation for project management
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail
  • Experience in conversion optimization testing
  • Excellent detailed written, verbal, presentation skills
  • Proven experience in backlog grooming, user story development and prioritization
  • A working history that shows a commitment to transparency, trust, and collaboration across all levels of seniority
  • A love for education and learning about best-in-class practices, customer experiences, and industry
  • Knowledge in the following practices (preferred):
  • User Experience within responsive design
  • SCRUM/Agile Development
  • Web Analytics and KPIs
  • Project management
  • Principles of target markets and customer segments
