The Opportunity

Our Power & Energy Solutions Maintenance team is currently seeking a skilled Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Technician to join our team based in Crossfield, AB.

Reporting to the Manager - Maintenance & Work Management, this EIC Controls Technician will maintain equipment associated with Power Generation, Natural Gas Storage and auxiliary equipment (including assigned electronic, electrical, pneumatic and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment for gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, boilers, fuel gas compressors, and PLC & DCS control systems) in a manner which meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. In this role, you will also be required to perform tasks from other disciplines.

The regular work schedule for this position will be:

  • Week 1 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; Friday off
  • Week 2 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; 8 hours on Friday

What You'll Do

  • Perform installation, testing, repair, and maintenance on gas storage and power generation equipment, and other facilities relevant to the PES BU as required
  • Conduct routine regular maintenance on gas turbine equipment, gas compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot, test, & maintain shutdown devices, fire & gas systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, relief and Over Pressure Protection devices, control valves, PLC's & control systems
  • Install & configure software in control systems
  • Perform emergency repairs to meet the business units needs
  • Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TC Energy's Community, Safety and Environment policies and procedures as well as accepted risk standards
  • Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low to medium complexity projects with effective work management practices such as time management, work sequencing, and contractor oversight
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, P&IDs, etc.
  • Complete job safety analysis (JSA's), Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA's), and Risk Assessments along with other electronic documentation
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in Microsoft Office and support close-out in SAP as required.
  • Complete core operational task qualifications required to perform job tasks
  • Supervise and coordinate and work alongside third party contractors.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to other personnel
  • Demonstrate safety leadership
  • Collaborate and support our business partners as required
  • Respond to emergency situations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Journeyman certificate (i.e. Electrical, Instrumentation, etc.)
  • 5-7 years experience troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, installing, repairing, and servicing of various electrical and instrumentation equipment associated with compressors, auxiliary engines, cooling equipment, valves, pumps, fittings, scrubbers, filters, electric motors, etc.
  • Experience interpreting technical reference documents and reading drawings
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a proven safe driving record and provide documentation of past traffic violations upon request, as well as maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Proven excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman certification (Electrical or Instrumentation)
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably with SAP experience
  • Experience with SCADA systems and remote RTU's
  • Understanding of commonly used ICS network protocols
  • Prior experience with Delta V DCS platform
  • Previous experience with high pressure natural gas
  • Strong understanding of AER Directive 17 and flow measurement standard.
  • Current with technological advances in the power and gas processing field

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home (estimated up 15% of work schedule)
  • Be part of an on-call rotation and provide emergency support as required
