Please Note: We are looking specifically for instructors who are willing/able to work in Correctional facilities throughout Alberta. The role involves travel and accommodation with daytime availability required from Monday to Friday.

NAIT offers a variety of courses through Inmate Education program within the department of Corporate and Continuing Education to bring training opportunities to Correctional Facilities throughout Alberta.

Are you an experienced professional in asbestos removal and abatement? Do you have a passion for teaching and sharing your expertise? We are seeking a qualified Asbestos Removal & Abatement Instructor to lead a comprehensive training course designed to prepare students for certification in this critical field. This course equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to safely handle asbestos removal and abatement work. Participants will learn about the presence of asbestos in drywall, insulation, and flooring in buildings constructed before 1995. The training covers proper procedures, tools, equipment, and safety measures, as well as worksite planning, preparation, abatement options, health effects, and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in asbestos removal and abatement best practices.

  • Teach correct procedures, safety protocols, and the use of specialized tools and equipment.

  • Provide insights into worksite planning, preparation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Educate students on the health effects of asbestos exposure and mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure training aligns with industry standards and certification requirements.


Program/Course Goals:

To provide participants with the knowledge to:

  • Describe the types of asbestos.

  • Explain the uses of asbestos.

  • Describe the negative health effects associated with asbestos.

  • Describe the legislation, building codes, and OH&S Acts referring to asbestos.

  • Explain the methods of asbestos abatement.

  • Describe the procedures for asbestos abatement.

  • Describe and demonstrate glove bag abatement procedure.

  • Explain the respirators used and demonstrate a fit test.

  • Describe the tools and equipment used in asbestos abatement.

  • Describe the procedures for site preparation/enclosures, use of negative air units, and decontamination.

  • Describe the procedures for tearing down, air quality monitoring, and other considerations.


Qualifications:

  • Asbestos Worker Card.

  • Commercial and industrial experience considered an asset.

  • Instructional experience considered an asset.

  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills.

  • A high level of independence is required.


Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
