Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Public Works Project Officer position in Edmonton, AB from May - Aug 2025.

Job Summary

The Intern, Public Works Project Officer is responsible for assisting in the review of engineering drawings, legal agreements and discussions, land surveys and regulatory compliance requirements. The role supports various projects carried out during construction season and collaborates with the Public Works team and supports the Public Works (PW) Manager projects.

Major Responsibilities

  • Create or improve PW Project tracking systems for capacity improvements, railroad crossing upgrades for safety and compliance with Transport Canada (TC) regulations
  • Review plans for municipality roads and intersection improvement projects in proximity of a railway track to confirm they meet engineering and TC's Grade Crossing Regulations (GCR) and Standards (GCS)
  • Support Public Works group in tracking railroad crossing upgrade projects by following up with interdepartmental team and external stakeholders

Requirements

  • Proficient in data and project management
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Ability to review engineering memos and drawings*
  • Working knowledge of programs such as Geographic Information System (GIS), Systems Applications and Products (SAP) and Automatic Computer Aided Design (AutoCad)*
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and SharePoint

Education

  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
