The Boilermaker program prepares students to work with tools, heavy equipment, and machinery, all while paying high attention to detail for precise work with plenty of variety. The program will instruct students to work on all types of boilers, tanks, and pressure vessels, performing structural and plate work on air, steam, and liquid tight containers.

The program is currently recruiting for a temporary instructor who is an energetic leader, committed to student success, and have outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present learning outcomes and activities in a classroom, laboratory and industry setting

  • Participate in curriculum development, program reviews and course reviews

  • Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materials

  • Manage instructional delivery and set the tone and climate for a safe and effective learning environment

  • Create assessment tools to evaluate the learning process and maintain progress records

  • Provide early and on-going coaching and tutoring for students to maximize student success and retention

  • Respond to student issues

  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for presentations, communications and program promotions

  • Maintenance and/or submission of program/student records accurately and promptly

  • Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students, colleagues, and industry partners

  • Actively participate in the strategies of NAIT's Strategic Plan and NAIT's Academic Plan as identified by the institute

  • Utilize regular student feedback to identify and implement instructional improvement

  • Improve the quality of instruction through professional development activities

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bring passion, enthusiasm, and ideas that will positively contribute to the advancement and growth of the program and the culture of our collaborative and dynamic team

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • Completion of Boilermaker Alberta Journeyperson certificate or provincial equivalent required including Inter-Provincial Red Seal an asset

  • Minimum 5 years recent industry experience after completion of Journeyperson ticket

  • Teaching experience an asset

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Remuneration: Will commensurate with education and experience, plus 18.5% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay. (Instructor salary grid $34.48 - $59.98 per hour, however, starting hourly wage for a new hire average between $41.76 - 45.41 per hour based on education and experience. (Classification - Instructor).

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
