This is a 12 month maternity leave temporary position.

This position will be based in Grande Prairie and will require regular travel to other branches in Alberta and British Columbia.

Reporting to the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager, the HSE Advisor assists with establishing and administering the Company Health and Safety Management System by coordinating the training, inspections, and industrial hygiene.

Key position functions:

  • Assist in maintaining the ongoing development, implementation, and effectiveness of the Company Health and Safety Management System and ensure that all safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are followed and recommend changes as required by senior management.
  • Advise managers and employees about relevant safe work standards, practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Evaluate work activities to determine potential hazards and ensure that adequate controls are in place.
  • Assess and support the safe work practices and procedures for compliance with all governing bodies.
  • Lead and assist with site inspections, hazard assessments, safety meetings and field audits.
  • Review FLRA's, JHA's, and pre-use reports.
  • Assist in incident investigations ensuring they are completed fully, and that appropriate root causes and corrective actions are identified and implemented.
  • Assist with coordinating internal and external audits of SFI HSE Management System.
  • Assist with development and implementation of the Joint Work Site Health & Safety Committees.
  • Coordinate and conduct employee training and competency assessments.
  • Comply with all formal communication and reporting expectations.
  • Promote safe wok practices, fostering a strong safety culture amongst multiple locations.
  • Complete project work and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel as necessary to fulfill the above functions as directed.

Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following:

  • Completion or enrolled in a recognized OH&S certificate program.
  • Working towards CRSP / CSP Certification an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of OH&S regulations, codes, and practices.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR level C Certificate.
  • H2S Alive and CSO Certificates.
  • Prior Occupational Health and Safety experience in the oil and gas sector preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years of HSE experience.
  • Strong analytical, communication (oral and written), time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with an ability to positively influence others.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); knowledge of SharePoint an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and able to provide a current driver's abstract.
