Our Certified Power Engineers are our powerhouses. They are pros at maintaining the machinery and boilers that keep our mills running. As a 4th Class Power Engineering Student, you will develop expertise in biomass combustion systems, work with our on-site boilers, and earn hours towards your 3rd class certification. We're looking for two 4th Class Power Engineers, currently working toward their 3rd Class certification, to join our Athabasca Oriented Strand Board (OSB) division, located in Slave Lake, Alberta. This state-of-the-art facility has the longest continuous press in North America, giving us the ability to manufacture a broad range of innovative forest products for customers around the world.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • 4th Class Power Engineer Certification.
  • Basic operating and maintenance experience.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to working safely.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under the guidance of the Energy Lead/Senior Power Engineers and take direction.
  • Ability to work various shifts as required

In this role you will:

  • You will have the opportunity to develop expertise in biomass combustion systems, as well as work with one of two boilers on site.
  • Work with a high-performance team dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fire systems, process safety equipment, and newly built thermal energy system.
  • Keep our systems running smoothly by applying your knowledge with assistance from Senior power engineers to the planning and execution of maintenance and regulatory efforts in the energy area.
  • Show our commitment to excellence by maintaining records associated with compliance with environmental, ABSA and insurance standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance tasks under the guidance of a Senior power engineer.
