Our Athabasca OSB Division is currently recruiting an 8-month Automation & Controls Student. Our Controls & Automation students are key contributors at our mills. Our students' passion for technology and appetite for new challenges gives a fresh approach to tackling improvements. As a student, you'll have the opportunity to work with seasoned professionals to build your skills and gain meaningful automation and controls engineering work experience. We're looking for an Automation & Controls Student to join our facility located in Slave Lake, Alberta. This state-of-the-art facility has the longest continuous press in North America, giving us the ability to produce a diverse range of innovative products for customers around the world.

Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering program.
  • Posses a Class 5-Graduated Driver's License prior to start date.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of electrical machines.
  • A passion for technology and programming.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use own resources to find innovative solutions to new problems.


In this role you will:

  • Work on improvements to automation, controls and visualization.
  • Be driven to find solutions and look for ways to improve processes.
  • Recommend methods to improve safety, quality, throughput, and uptime
  • Provide support to electrical personnel on shift.
  • Support industrial programming in a OSB mill.
  • Work closely with highly experienced Process Control personnel.
