Detailed Overview
Performs various electroneurophysiological tests including EEG tests and Recording for Carotid Endarterectomy; evaluates test results and provides test information for interpretation by the medical staff. Performs supply and equipment maintenance, maintains procedure manual and workload measurement statistics/information.
Responsibilities
- Conducts and records EEG tests on patients by performing duties such as operating a variety of digital equipment, adjusting equipment during test processes and taking appropriate measurements from test data produced in order to demonstrate whether abnormalities exist.
- Formulates technical preliminary reports by performing duties such as analyzing recordings, describing abnormal manifestations and forwarding impressions to the Neurologists for diagnosis.
- Prepares for patient test by performing duties such as receiving requisitions from physicians, reviewing case history, and assessing the nature of the problems to determine test approach. Obtains patient history from the patient or family, explains procedure, attaches electrodes to appropriate areas and monitors patient's comfort to ensure patient is at ease while obtaining required results.
- Sets-up and monitors Carotid Endarterectomy during the OR procedures and advises the Surgeon of any changes during the procedure.
- Ensures equipment is functioning correctly and reports any problems to Biomed for equipment servicing. Cleans machine electrodes; calibrates equipment to ensure production of accurate records.
- Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and equipment. Provides input into capital equipment acquisitions and budget information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from a recognized program in Electroneurophysiology Technology plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Eligible for registration with the Canadian Board of Registration of Electroneurophysiology Technologists (CBRET) and/or the Board of Registered Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC).
