Overview

The Construction Manager - Ports & Terminals is responsible for the construction and commissioning of civil and marine infrastructure projects. As the owners representative the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering projects within the approved budget and schedule while ensuring the work meets safety, operational and quality requirements. This includes managing construction and consultant contracts, planning construction works to minimize impact to existing operations, reviewing designs and workplans, managing construction works within a brownfield operating environment and ensuring completed infrastructure is properly documented, commissioned and successfully handed over to terminal operations.

About this Role

  • Provide leadership and represent DP World Canada through the full construction cycle of terminal infrastructure projects
  • Lead the construction and commissioning of terminal infrastructure projects
  • Ensure all works are constructed safely and construction works are coordinated and planned with terminal operations
  • Deliver terminal infrastructure projects within approved budget and schedule
  • Administer construction and consultant contracts including claim and risk mitigation
  • Support project planning, permitting, consultation, procurement, and engineering design, to support constructability and value engineering
  • Organize and lead workshops with Terminal Operations, Technology, Safety and Security groups to support project construction and commissioning
  • Provide input and review Request For Qualification and Request For Proposal documentation and participate in selection, and coordination of consultants and contractors
  • Manage the completion of site investigations, topographic surveys and other environmental, permitting, consultation, or pre-construction activities
  • Represent the business and maintain collaborative relationships with port authorities, First Nations, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Provide leadership to instil DP World's Our Principles across projects
  • Provide leadership and ensure all project work is completed in accordance with DP World's Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies
  • Provide construction progress reports and updates to DP World's Operations and Leadership Team

About You

  • Experience and Education
    • A university degree in engineering, construction management or related discipline along with a minimum of 8 years of experience in the delivery of civil or marine infrastructure projects
    • Demonstrated project experience related to the planning, permitting, procurement, engineering design, construction supervision, commissioning, and contract administration of civil or marine infrastructure project with construction values >$20m
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in British Columbia, certification in construction management, or similar
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Proven leadership skills to develop and motivate a team. Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships both with and among team members
    • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including the ability to work with all departments and levels and represent the business externally
    • Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables effective decision making
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and competing stakeholders
    • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/initiatives
    • Broad understanding of engineering principles and applicable regulations, best practices, and safety standards
    • Ability to maintain a long-term strategy and vision from project inception to delivery
