We are rapidly evolving our business, and we are looking for a seasoned and motivated Duty Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation of the Canada Place Cruise Ship Terminal. This is a contract role (April 2025 - November 2025). This is an exciting opportunity to lead a highly skilled, professional Safety and Security team.

What you'll do:

As the Duty Manager working at Canada Place Cruise Ship Terminal, you'll be responsible for: Scheduling Officers in day-to-day operations using WinTeam, coordinating with Terminal Security Operations, CBSA, USCBP, Completing Transport Canada compliance drills, preparing detailed reports for Ceres Terminals Canada and directing our control room operators with dispatching on-site officers to attend areas of concern.

In this role, you will be working directly with the Ceres Terminals Canada Security Manager in daily cruise operations. In addition, you will act as a liaison between Westguard and Ceres Terminals Canada. The Duty Manager will maintain a safe work environment by following the Federally regulated protocols and procedures. In addition, the role will take the necessary steps to eliminate and minimize hazards and Security threats while overseeing a security team of 50+ employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure maintenance of strong and effective relationships with client customers and key stakeholders
  • Provides leadership, advice and counsel to all site security team members in achieving client satisfaction
  • Responsible for the training and deployment of guards
  • Marine Transportation Security Clearance (MTSC) will be required to work at the location.
  • Managing team members in an effective and efficient manner with a focus on personnel retention and professional development
  • Responsible for conducting site reviews, writing audit/review reports, reviewing findings, and making recommendations to the client
  • Responsible to perform annual risk analysis for the Operational sites within their responsibility
  • Responsible for providing advice and counsel to the client on security policy and practices. Identifies exposures and recommendations
  • Serves as lead in regard to conducting investigations of significant threats and/or the loss or misappropriation of assets for clients/sites, and employee discipline as necessary
  • Performs incident analysis and investigation relative to all incidents with advice and closure to all stakeholders
  • Develops and implements site specific training and improvement programs.
  • Ensure resources are appropriately and efficiently allocated to key areas of work and that priorities are always covered adequately
  • Use of reporting and tracking for site visits and monthly/quarterly reports
  • Maintain Security Operations Manuals/post orders and all site directives with updates annually
  • Inventory Management of uniforms and site-specific equipment
  • Oversight of reporting management system
  • Must be available on Weekends

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of one to three years' experience as a manager in an operational setting combined with or in addition to working in the security industry or law enforcement preferred.
  • Degree or diploma in security management, risk management or business continuity an asset.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment
  • Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and engagement skills
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with a 'hands on' problem solving approach, able to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents
  • Experience with writing procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases and compiling and adjusting duty rosters to meet shortfalls in staffing levels
  • Security professional with proven management experience within the security industry, the public sector is an asset.
  • Experience working in a marine environment
  • Transport Canada Security Clearance (or ability to obtain)
  • Access to a vehicle to get to site on Sundays
  • Must carry a valid Security Workers License
  • OFA 2 an asset
