About this role:

The Team Lead, Compensation and Benefits is responsible for the processing and administration of PeopleSoft Time and Labour administration, Payroll processing and Benefits to support the timely and accurate payment of wages to employees. The Team lead provides support to a team of 4 Compensation and Benefit Coordinators. As well as liaising with the payroll service provider to ensure the timeliness and production of the bi-weekly payroll process.

The Team Lead is responsible to oversee and provide guidance to a team of four to ensuring corrective action and follow up is provided with regards to compensation and payment of wages. The Team Lead ensures the accurate and timely reporting of schedules and hours worked for employees in accordance with the Main Agreement and Component Agreements. The position ensures completion of all processes, generates reports and queries within deadlines established to ensure the completion of the bi-weekly payroll processing.

The Team Lead is responsible for responding and resolving complex employee inquiries and concerns as they relate to compensation and employee benefits administration. This position also supervises four Coordinators, HR Compensation including assigning and monitoring of workload and training.

A criminal record check is required. Successful candidates may be required to work outside regular business hours to meet deadlines, as required.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Secondary (high school) diploma or equivalent certificate and a minimum of one (1) year of recent, related experience* working in a payroll environment with an emphasis on administering payroll functions.

*Recent, related experience must have occurred in the last three (3) years and must include the following:

  • Experience with reading, interpreting and applying documented information and providing payroll advice and guidance to clients on standard interpretations of policies and procedures, such as Main Agreement, Employment Standards Act, etc.
  • Experience working with a Human Resource Management System, preferably PeopleSoft Payroll/Time and Labour.

Preference may be given to candidates with any of the following experience:

  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Diploma or certificate or formal course work pertaining to Payroll, Accounting, or Business Administration.
