Detailed Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Health Services, the Eye Center Aide assists the surgical team by performing such duties as picking and distributing OR instrument sets, supplies and equipment for opthalmology cases according to established procedures; assisting the operative team with preparation of surgical setup, take down and transfer of instruments to SPD; transporting patients from the operating room to the recovery room and maintaining implant records.
Responsibilities


  1. Reviews OR slates and identifies opthamology cases for next day. Picks and distributes OR instrument sets, supplies and equipment for opthamology cases according to established procedures.
  2. Assists with room set-up by removing dirty case carts and replacing with clean sterile case carts. Re-assembles supplies and instrument trays on sterile case carts. Maintains and restocks sterile case carts. Transfers instrumentation to Sterile Processing Department according to established procedures.
  3. Assists the surgical team in post operative transport of patients from the operating room to the recovery room.
  4. Collects patient charts from pre-admission and delivers to anesthesia room.
  5. Documents and maintains patient specific information regarding eye implants in eye centre inventory control records.
  6. Monitors usage of medical/surgical supplies and instrumentation including sutures, lens injectors, needles, packs and water stocks usage and re-stocks supplies according to established procedures.
  7. Restocks linen carts for eye centre by obtaining supplies from surgical services linen cart.
  8. Locates equipment required by the unit and maintains storage areas.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Grade 12, successful completion of Sterile Supply Processing course, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
