Description

The Thrift Store Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the Dawson Creek Thrift Store ensuring store sales targets are met by implementing stated standards in sales, customer service, merchandising, store staff training, reclamation, product donation flow, and the processing of in-store donations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs all operations of the Thrift store
  • Ensures attractiveness of the store through "Tidy Maintenance"
  • Oversees and participates in facility management including cleaning, maintenance, repairs in/outside, and grounds maintenance
  • Ensures proper processing of donations and store merchandising
  • Communicate regularly with the Retail manager to ensure consistent adherence to Ministry Unit Store Policies/Promotions and for support as needed.
  • Complies with all legislative and company policies and procedures adhering to Health and Safety, Operations, Financial, and other company policies
  • Promote a work climate that inspires enthusiasm, mutual trust, respect, professionalism & teamwork to achieve goals.
  • Motivate and train employees to maximize their potential and performance and to meet and exceed store sales targets.
  • Ensure store layout plans include merchandise displays and in-store promotions and keep abreast of marketing trends by checking competitors' stock.
  • Ensure stock is rotated regularly and merchandise is organized and displayed to maximize sales.
  • Ensure consistent and quality sorting and pricing of donations; assist where needed in the sorting room and store, receiving, etc.
  • Lock up sales cash and receipts at the end of each shift
  • Maintains control of inventory by ensuring store donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriately; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
  • Prepares paperwork for weekly Sales to Accounting Operations
  • Follow cash handling procedures and standards to record, balance, and deposit daily sales. Report and document any variances in cash.
  • Maintain and oversee safety standards and general maintenance for an attractive and organized store. Tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust, and mop as necessary; on a rotational basis clean the lunchroom, washroom, and other common areas including garbage disposal.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain attractive and effective product displays.
  • Ensure merchandise is presented according to company standards.
  • Coordinate seasonal and promotional displays.
  • Implement sales strategies to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Coordinate in-store promotions and events to drive customer engagement.
  • Analyze sales data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Engage with the customers by posting approved content and deals on the Facebook page.
  • Reports the Incidents directly to the Retail Manager.
  • Ensure the store complies with health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards.
  • Train staff on emergency procedures and safety protocols.
  • Minor material responsibility.
  • Assist with the materials management of donations/product flow in the thrift store.
  • Oversee the cash and debit sales and ensure that bank deposits balance and are deposited nightly as per store and TSA policy; the float is balanced and secured for the next day.
  • The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her resources.
  • The incumbent will be authorized to collect cash and process other payment methods.

HOURS: 24 hours a week (Temp PT - for 6 months)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of Post-secondary College Certificate Program in Business/Marketing/Retail Management or equivalent.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Experience:

  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including retail, marketing, and supervisory experience.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Experience with cash registers and related processes and procedures i.e., bank deposits, summary reports, etc.
  • Product brand awareness would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a computerized environment.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Current certificate in First Aid/CPR.
  • Current Driver's License with clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Proficient Computer Skills.
  • Clean Criminal Check.
  • Fluent in Speaking English.

Knowledge:

The incumbent must know the following areas.

  • Microsoft Office programs, word, excel, etc.
  • Accounting procedures
  • Budgeting process
  • Human Resources but a not necessity

Skills:
