Description

The Sales Associate provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the manager in the maintenance of all store operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer monetary transactions, including cash, visa, debit, etc.
  • Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards
  • Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through "Tidy Maintenance"
  • Replenishes inventory levels based on Supervisor's directions
  • Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
  • Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)
  • Records incoming/outgoing donations in proper logs
  • Will primarily communicate with The Salvation Army's Thrift Store customers
  • Will communicate with the Salvation Army staff, volunteers and donors
  • The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources
  • Will be authorized to collect cash and other payment methods
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Reports directly to: Thrift Store Manager

HOURS: On-Call position. Willing to work Saturdays and other weekday shifts when needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sustain the daily routine of moderate to heavy lifting, reaching and bending and standing for long periods of time
  • Adaptability to changes and interruptions in normal work routine
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality with regard to store operations
  • Willingness to work with individuals from differing backgrounds/cultures
  • Willingness to adhere to the dress code of neatness and cleanliness

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • The performance of the job requires continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting, kneeling and entering data for transactions.
  • The performance of the job requires visual monitoring and frequently working with numbers
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Attention to occasional computer work
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
