Reporting to the Manager, Rail Operations, the Rail Operations Specialist is an integral team member of Rocky Mountaineer's Operations Centre. The Rail Operations Specialist is the central communication link between all departments involved in the movement of RM trains and coordination of yard switching.

This position is deemed safety sensitive. This position requires you to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, the public, property or the environment.
Key Areas of Accountability
• Ensure the safe, efficient and on time performance of RM trains
• Ensure train consists support demand and facilitate job briefings to maximize yard efficiencies
• Coordinate optimal arrival and departure times of RM trains with other departments and stakeholders
• Communicate expected operating conditions with Train Manager and operational teams
• Serve as the primary liaison with rail partners, proving frequent operational updates
• Offer forecasts and updates based on rail assessments and partner communications
• Oversee the Operations Emergency Line, providing documentation of incidents and escalations when required
• Produce train performance reports, and continual train performance updates
Safety
• Comply with all Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR), and General Operating Instructions (GOI) and all other safety policies, procedures & rules
• Identify, protect & report safety hazards to management & OH&S Committee
• Meet or exceed safety and security requirements
Operations
• Support the successful execution of the Operating Plan
• Lead the movements of RM trains & rail equipment
• Support with securing TGBOS and DOBS required for daily operation
• Will require the ability to train for and perform switching duties
• Support operational and equipment availability requirements
• Support Operations and Mechanical requirements in the Operations Centre
• Support EOC requirements
• Support operational targets and metrics
• May be required to connect/disconnect HEP cables
Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licenses
• Post-secondary education in Business Administration or equivalent experience
• Ability to train for and perform switching duties considered; an asset
Experience/Skills
• Qualified Railroad - RTC, Locomotive Engineer, Conductor; an asset
• Railway operating experience; preferred
• Supervisory experience; an asset
• High attention to detail, with ability to manage competing priorities
• Advanced decision-making, problem solving, critical thinking skills in high pressure situations
• Exemplary communication skills in providing direction/correction to team members
• Strong time management, coordination and organizational skills
• Ability to take personal accountability, be adaptable, and be a problem solver
• Familiarity with computer applications, particularly MS Office Suite
• Ability to work cross-functionally
Work Environment
• May require occasional travel
• Rail industrial site that requires walking and sitting throughout the day
• Daily operations consist of two shifts: Day shift (0530-1330) and Afternoon Shift (1300-2100). Work schedules may vary based on operational requirements

Hourly wage: $29/hour
