Detailed Overview
Liaising with multi-disciplinary staff in assigned areas, the Coordinator oversees the coordination and evaluation of Volunteer Program and services, as well as the supervision, evaluation and recognition of volunteers in the assigned areas.
Responsibilities
- In consultation with the Manager, develops strategies and initiatives for volunteer recruitment, and reviews volunteer program goals and objectives to provide input to the Manager.
- Develops service descriptions, standards and procedures specific to Volunteer Resources in the assigned areas. Assists with the maintenance of department manuals and recommends and updates policies relating to the volunteer programs.
- Pre-screens volunteer applications. Interviews volunteers to determine aptitude and abilities. Checks references and selects those suitable for assigned programs, evaluating applicants suitability for the program.
- Provides orientation and training on the role of volunteers to both volunteers and other staff members in the assigned areas.
- Liaises with Auxiliary, staff, clients, patients, residents, families and community groups as applicable to identify a range of volunteer opportunities, and develops and implements appropriate volunteer programs in consultation with the Manager.
- Provides guidance and support to staff and volunteers by clarifying roles and expectations, and providing formal and informal volunteer recognition.
- Evaluates volunteer activities in assigned areas and making recommendations for improvements to ensure volunteer programs meet the department needs.
- Assigns volunteers to specific activities according to their aptitudes, abilities and availability and maintains the schedules of volunteer participation within assigned areas. Ensures volunteers are provided regular opportunities to offer and receive feedback.
- Supervises and prepares written and verbal evaluations of volunteers in collaboration with multidisciplinary staff as appropriate. Conducts performance evaluations, provides support and direction by clarifying roles and expectations and determines related training and orientation requirements. Follows up on volunteer complaints and/or conflicts and takes appropriate action.
- Participates in the coordination of recognition and appreciation initiatives for volunteers in all areas including individual volunteers, community and corporate groups, to acknowledge volunteer contributions.
- Receives and responds to written and verbal inquiries regarding volunteer programs, special activities and community involvement.
- Makes recommendations with regard to the purchase of new equipment and supplies, maintains equipment for volunteer programs.
- Develops and maintains contacts and partnerships with internal departments and external community groups and volunteer organizations to promote interest, volunteer recruitment and support for the volunteer program. Participates in recruitment of volunteers through activities such as community volunteering events.
- Maintains related records and statistics and submits reports of activities and performance of volunteers to the Manager by utilizing applicable software such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, presentation and volunteer management software.
- Represents Volunteer Resources on internal, regional and external committees as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from a Bachelor program in Social Sciences plus three (3) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
