Description

The Salvation Army is looking for outgoing, personable, and self-motivated individuals who want to impact their community positively. If you love the art of conversation, can engage the public and inspire them to donate to the cause, then you should join our team as a Christmas Kettle Host. Every dollar raised through this program goes back into the community to help feed, clothe and shelter those in need while helping others escape violence and addiction, and support new to Canada refugees to become part of the society.

Hours: 4 hour shifts up to 20 hours/week, Nov.14, 2024 to Dec.24, 2024. Hours may vary. Weekend, afternoon and evening availability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and thank donors courteously
  • Host kettle location and engage with public to encourage donations
  • Remain at the Kettle stand for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received
  • Set up, take down, care and monitoring of kettles during shift
  • Respond to donor / public questions and or make appropriate referral liaise with the Kettle Coordinator; report any issues or concerns
  • Present a positive image for The Salvation Army while on duty
  • Liaise with store or property personnel / staff
  • Collect donor’s information when a request is made for a charitable tax receipt
  • Manage inventory and request supplies when necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Minimum high school education or equivalency an asset

Experience:

  • Previous fundraising experience, customer service, and volunteer experience an asset

SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, positive working attitude
  • Sensitivity to social issues within our community
  • Highly accountable, may be required to work different shifts, ie afternoons, evenings and Saturdays.
  • Ability to work independently & part of a team
  • Ability to stand for 4 hours, (may increase as Kettle Campaign requires)
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army Identification
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Access to phone, email, transportation, i.e., Transit, etc. for communication purposes and arriving at shifts on time.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to:

  • Attend a Kettle Host training session
  • Background check consent
  • Agree to Code of Conduct and required Health and Safety training
