Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Controller, Finance - BC, this position is responsible for the overall management of the financial accounting operation of the BC Finance Team. Provides leadership and direction to the team, ensures adherence to all policies and procedures, motivates and leads by example, and provides a supportive learning environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee full cycle accounting functions, including treasury, gaming revenue, hospitality revenue, indirect taxes, intercompany, and other areas; provides mentoring, management and support to team members within the BC region
  • Monitors monthly and quarterly tasks and working paper checklists to ensure accounting close and reporting of financial information are completed timely and accurately, and deliverables are on-time
  • Reviews financial results of hospitality and casino operations, compares to budget and forecast, provides variance analysis support to operational department heads
  • Assists and coordinates the annual budget as directed by operations management
  • Oversees sales tax and withholding tax returns for BC sites
  • Reviews working papers and reconciliations for treasury, gaming revenue, intercompany, prepaids, AR, and other accounts; providing feedback for improvements
  • Responds to and resolves inquiries and issues related to accounting and financial results
  • Reviews financial and operational processes, internal controls, and reporting systems to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness
  • Reviews and maintains the integrity of accounting systems and sub-systems; identifies opportunities for efficiencies and internal control improvements
  • Develops performance objectives and delivers performance evaluations for direct reports
  • Liaises and communicates effectively with senior management and all appropriate operational departments
  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety, and other statutory regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed

Education and Qualifications:

  • A CPA designation is preferred, or suitable combination of education and experience
  • 5-7 years progressive experience in accounting with 2-3 years of management experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel skills including creating macros and other complex formulas.
  • Experience using, JDE and Looker an asset.
  • Ability to be self-directed and take initiative while working independently and remaining focused on an assignment through to delivery.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic and changing environment.
