Job Summary

The NSHBCCC project team invites qualified physicians to submit an expression of interest for the role of Physician Lead, Clinical Planning, Host Hospital Operations, NSHBCCC Development Project. The New Surrey Hospital Project ("the Project") is a multi-year initiative that will add a new community hospital in Surrey. The Project will increase capacity to improve access to services and help meet the needs of a growing and aging population, while reducing congestion and overflow pressures at Surrey Memorial Hospital and the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care & Surgery Centre.

This hospital is based on the premise of a "virtual first" philosophy in that the provision of innovative virtual care is a key component of the care delivery model including, but not limited to, home health monitoring, remote home support, remote consultation, virtual triage, tele-ICU/HAU and a command center that will support several business processes related to patient access and flow, including bed management and coordination of support services. We are looking for a physician that is clinically and technologically minded, with experience and keen interest in innovation and advancing new models of care for a futuristic hospital.

This role will provide strategic and operational medical leadership to clinical planning for the development project. The individual in the role will have a close collaborative relationship with the Chief Clinical Planner, to make recommendations for evidence-based, innovative, patient- centred best practices to enhance operational planning and the future development of NSHBCCC. The role will provide guidance to meaningful engagement of physician partners and to achieving success in impacting clinical outcomes through the development of the site.

The position will foster relationships and work with internal and external physicians, researchers, directors, leaders, contractors and other development team members. The individual in this role will serve as a key contact and representative of physicians.

Reporting to the NSHBCCC Chief Clinical Planner, the incumbent will also have a working relationship with the Chief Project Officer in relation to the NSHBCCC development project.

This is a part-time role estimated to require a flexible time commitment, of approximately 2 days per week to meet the project deadlines as needed, and for a minimum 1-year term, with the option to extend for the length of the project upon review.

Major responsibilities will include:

  1. Clinical planning and management: Review of current Surrey Acute and Community clinical services, volumes and practices as a baseline for an overall strategic, population-based, patient-centred future state clinical service delivery
  2. Provide opportunities for the active engagement and involvement of physicians and academic and research leaders in the development and implementation of the future state clinical service delivery plan and performance specifications.
  3. Incorporate the concepts outlined as clinical benefits in the business
  4. Integration of all clinical, clinical support and clinical administrative service
  5. Ensuring the clinical service delivery plan and performance specifications promote the role of NSHBCCC as a provincial clinical and academic
  6. In collaboration with the Executive Director and Chief Clinical Planner, participate as a clinical leader in evaluation of the design-builder submissions and contract
