The Cancer Genetics and Genomics Laboratory at BC Cancer Vancouver is seeking a Ph.D. Laboratory Scientist. Our laboratory serves tertiary care for cancer patients as well as extensive referred in testing for the province of BC and beyond. Through our affiliation with UBC, we provide teaching for medical residents and medical laboratory technology students and contribute to the medical literature through lab-based or collaborative research.

What you'll do

• Develop and help implement genetic and genomic assays with a focus on large next-generation sequencing approaches for identifying germline and somatic alterations in cancer tissue and circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA).
• Develop and validate new assays, and optimize and improve existing assays
• Lead bioinformatics quality assurance and troubleshooting related to pipelines
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including geneticists, lab scientists, technologists, and operational leaders, to deliver high-quality patient care.

What you bring

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology or other related field and a minimum of 2 years of technical experience in method development including 'next-generation' sequencing technologies and related bioinformatics tools.
• Expertise with cancer genomics and bioinformatic approaches to sequence data analysis is required
• Familiarity with sequence data quality management and ctDNA assay development would be an asset.
• An organized approach to data collection, interpretation and presentation for this accredited clinical service.

• As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Job Type: Temporary, Part-Time

Salary Range: $106,026 - $152,413 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
