Reporting to the Manager, Transformation Management Office (TMO), the Senior Project Controls Specialist will serve as a resource for implementing project controls methods, procedures, and systems on the Transformation Program.

The area of project controls includes the disciplines of estimating, scheduling/planning, cost control, change management, and progress reporting. This role will also have a large component of integration into the overall Transformation function, including contracts, procurement, quality and risk management.

This role is accountable to the Teck Transformation team for the planning and implementation of effective project controls resources, processes and systems on the program, within the standards set by the TMO Manager and VP of Transformation. This may involve a self-execute approach or one of collaboration with Teck's contract partners.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

  • Maintain and demonstrate Teck's commitment to safety and environmental protection as a core value

  • Responsible for developing and/or reviewing project controls management plans, both internal and from service providers, specifically in the areas of: Estimating, Planning, Cost Management, Change Management, Progress & Performance Management, and Reporting

  • Set-up and implement the various project controls systems, processes and workflows of the project (internal and with appropriate service provider input

  • Prepare and apply the project specific procedures and guidelines for project controls

  • Responsible for integrating the cost, schedule, change management and contract/procurement plans and activities to ensure alignment in monitoring and reporting cost, schedule and progress

  • Assist in developing and reviewing Work Breakdown Structures, Work Packages, Estimates and Schedules at each phase of the project

  • Develop the project Control Accounts as an integration point of Cost, Schedule, Resourcing, and Procurement

  • Provide support and work with Project Accounting and/or Business Unit Finance groups

  • Provide timely, accurate, and in-depth analysis of project health with respect to trends and variances on the Control Accounts; provide root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions

  • Facilitate the weekly Project Controls review meetings, change management meetings project services meetings, or any other regularly occurring meeting, as appropriate

  • Work on project control audits on service providers, as appropriate

  • Support the independent review of project controls plans and performance for Setup Checks, Health Checks, or Stage Gates

  • Complete all project stage information for inclusion in the in-house project database

  • Provide mentoring and coaching project controls staff on a project - internal and external

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in engineering, accounting, finance or business, or diploma in a trade

  • Minimum 10years of professional experience on project controls, with preference on mining/industrial projects

  • Minimum 5 years of project controls experience in an Owner's role

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management and project controls techniques and principles

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Experience leading and developing teams

  • Experience using a scheduling tool like MS Project or Primavera 6 is considered an asset

  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, specifically SAP an asset

  • PEng or AScT registration is an asset

  • CCP, CEP, PMP or other similar designations preferred

Salary Range: $132,000 - $163,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
