Role Purpose

The Senior Reliability Engineer, is a key member of the Engineering Team and will lead the development of engineering programs across DPWC to ensure assets are effectively and efficiently managed throughout their lifecycle. The position has accountability for establishing world class reliability, maintenance processes and work practices and for developing a sustainable reliability culture across DPWC business units. The incumbent will closely work with the Terminal Maintenance and Operations Teams with a focus on asset lifecycle management from planning through disposal.

About the Role

  • Develop a world class maintenance strategy for Mobile fleets focused on reliability and asset lifecycle in partnership with operational and maintenance management teams.
  • Work with business units to accurately forecast mobile equipment requirements to support planned expansion projects.
  • Develop and implement reliability based asset management models, systems, standards and tools to support effective asset management strategies, tactics and analysis.
  • Enhance asset management through development and delivery of leading practices.
  • Pioneer new concepts and technologies in alignment with Global and DPWC objectives.
  • Identify, collect, analyze and interpret relevant information to support effective asset management.
  • Develop asset life cycle models in support of equipment replacement strategies.
  • Partner with OEM's to ensure assets are designed and built to meet performance objectives.
  • Sustain and enhance DPWC license to operate by ensuring mobile assets comply with internal health, safety, environmental and human resource management standards as well as relevant external legislative, regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in continuous improvement in standardized computerized maintenance management systems and tools to enhance mobile equipment asset performance.
  • Enhance measurement and monitoring systems to quantify the performance of the mobile equipment assets.
  • Provide troubleshooting and root cause analysis support to the business units for technical issues related to reliability or maintenance of mobile assets and share findings and solutions across the DPWC business units.
  • Develop and implement solutions to correct asset underperformance issues in concert with the business units.
  • Apply continuous improvement principles to reduce Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
  • Prepare and manage mobile assets for capitalization and disposal per business policy.

About You

  • A university degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a container terminal or industry equivalent in a fast moving Maintenance or Engineering environment, preferably in a unionized setting, where you have developed superior reliability and maintenance aptitude.
  • Comprehensive understanding of container terminal equipment and maintenance requirements, this includes thorough knowledge of modern reliability and maintenance best practices, including IT-based asset management systems.
  • Well versed in statutory and regulatory agency structures.
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office, computerized maintenance management systems and industrial control software.
  • Subject matter expert in asset management and maintenance.
  • Experience working in a safety-focused environment with excellent understanding of Health and Safety legislation and the ability to effectively communicate these values to the workforce.
  • Self-starter with a positive, hands on approach and the ability to work in a high pressure environment as part of a team to meet operational and engineering needs/deadlines.
  • Proven commitment, reliable work history and flexibility to meet requirements of a 24/7 operation.
  • An excellent manager of people with well-formed motivational skills, including solid negotiation, influencing, change management and labour relations skills.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including the ability to work with all departments and levels and contribute at a strategic level.
  • Sound judgement and analytical thinking that enables decision making, ability to manage projects and prioritize and manage timelines.
  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships and achieve buy in and ownership to quality standards/ initiatives.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
