Position Overview

Functions in accordance with the provision of the Registered Nurses Act or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act, The Mission Statement, Goals, Policies and Procedures of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Collective Agreements, and Human Rights. Will assume management on call responsibility as directed.

  • The nursing coordinator is a member of an interdisciplinary resident care team, and works in a coordination with resident/families, medical, professional and support staff to achieve the mission of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg for quality resident/client care. This is an out of scope managerial position which generally includes 30% administrative duties and 70% direct care and supervision.
  • Schedule may be rotated to work the day, evening, and night shift.
  • Major responsibilities include coordination of resident care delivery and service on units as assigned, including management of human resources, monitoring of professional standards, quality management, staff development, education and research-based practice.

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years' experience with demonstrated management and leadership skills.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience with clinical experience in gerontology.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree, Master's degree preferred.
  • Formal education in management an asset.
  • Advanced certificate in gerontology an asset.

  • Leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English; both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically think, analyze, conceptualize and apply relevant knowledge to practice.
  • Ability to determine resource requirements and re-allocate staff as required.
  • Ability to assess staff performance.
  • Ability to serve as a clinical resource for the planning and delivery of nursing care.
  • Ability to work independently within multiple care teams.
  • Ability to facilitate the professional development of staff, through mentoring and application of adult learning principles.
  • Working knowledge of legislation governing health care.
  • Familiarity with computer software such as email, word processing, and scheduling.

  • Must be flexible.
  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to work in a rapidly changing internal and external environment.
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, radiation, toxic material, noise, allergens, blood, feces, body fluids, etc.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
