Position Overview

  • Cleans, decontaminated or sterilized endoscopes and related equipment according to departmental procedures.
  • Cleans, operates and maintains function of disinfecting/sterilizing units.
  • Familiar with machine operation with ability to trouble shoot problems.
  • Ability to handle sterile supplies, packages and bundles. Check and maintain package integrity with ability to recognize compromised packages.
  • Test scopes according to departmental procedures. Reports any problems areas to Registered Nurse in Endoscopy and Infection Control Nurse.
  • Reviews testing protocol with Infection Control Nurse at her discretion.
  • Maintains endoscopy scope function. Reports any abnormalities to endoscopy Registered Nurse.
  • Prepares and packages scopes sent out for repair. Maintains records.
  • Maintains and records testing results of scopes.
  • Practicing knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Care and handling of endoscopic video equipment with ability to enter computer data.
  • Restocking supplies in endoscopy unit, Day Surgery Unit and Operating Room.
  • Performs shave preps.
  • Porters patients to OR and Endoscopy Unit.
  • Transports supplies, specimens and equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment by performing various cleaning duties on a routine basis.
  • Sets up and dismantles scopes and related equipment for each case.
  • Assists with patients in the endoscopy Unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists with duties in Day Surgery Unit such as preparing stretchers, washing, linen.

Experience

  • Recent experience endoscopy unit preferred.
  • Recent experience in CPD preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Successful completion of a recognized Certified Registered Central Services Technician Program.
  • Certification and attendance at workshops and conferences related to care and handling of endoscopies and disinfecting/sterilizing units preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Certification at Heart Saver Level required.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in operating room and CPD when required.
  • Ability to tolerate and work with chemical solutions.
  • Ability to work accurately and adapt to stressful situations.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to interact well with others in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Ability to relate to people in a tactful, courteous and reassuring manner.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical ability to tolerate constant standing, walking, bending, lifting and holding limbs for prolonged periods.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
