Job Summary:

The Statistical Programmer 2 are individuals with technical depth that can independently undertake moderately complex to complex work. They perform statistical programming and analysis that are beyond routine, interpret and communicate results, and contribute to the maintenance and quality control checks for the library of statistical programs and datasets of the department.

Individuals in this position do not have supervisory responsibilities, but may have some limited project management responsibilities of smaller projects with moderate complexity. They may be given ad hoc responsibilities as requested by their supervisor which can include short-term back-up for specific positions and others as deemed appropriate by their supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education

  • BSc in statistics, computer science or related fields plus 3 years of directly related work experience.
  • Other degrees and working experience in epidemiology, statistics, or another field with an emphasis on the use of statistics in health may be applicable.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience writing statistical programming including data cleaning functions, manipulation and analysis of a variety of administrative and clinical health data.
  • Minimum 3 years experience using statistical analysis software (such as R, SAS, and/or STATA).
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with large administrative and clinical databases.
  • 3 years of research work experience is preferred.
  • 1 year experience teaching and mentoring junior staff is preferred.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with basic and some advanced statistical programming in programs such as R, SAS, and/or STATA.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work in several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to teach or mentor both technical and non-technical staff.

Physical Demand and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple sites throughout the organization, and to lift and carry items.

Other

  • Must have satisfactory employment record.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Ability to speak French is considered an asset.
