Since 2000, Glenn Carpenter Center has been empowering youth through outdoor education, uninhibited creativity, and skill development. Our mission is to strengthen today's youth by giving them the tools, confidence, and compassion to become tomorrow's role models and leaders. YMCA Glenn Carpenter Center is a non-denominational day camp, open to all.
Position Overview
As part of the Glenn Carpenter Center Staff, the Head Lifeguard and Day Camp Counsellor will be responsible for supervising the waterfront and delivering quality programming for all Glen Carpenter Center participants.
YMCA Members this year will have more access than ever to the Glenn Carpenter Center Successful candidates will work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers to develop and deliver programming designed to cater to the physical, mental and social health of local children and youth. The successful applicant will engage and supervise youth participating in YMCA programming and will ensure an enjoyable safe and inclusive environment for youth and family participants of various skills and abilities.
Summer Day Camps are rich in the history of the YMCA of Greater Saint John. Located on Foster Thurston, the Glenn Carpenter Center offers day camp in a wilderness setting unlike any other location in Saint John. It offers more than 250 acres of forest, its own private lake, trails, an archery field, a sports field, a beach and much more. The camps offered are both traditional camps and specialty camps (babysitting, XC Biking, Climbing, etc.) allowing children to learn new skills and participate in some of their favorite activities during the summer.
Authority: The incumbent will take all actions appropriate to fulfilling the described functions. Such actions will be consistent with the practices and policies of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. Reports to the Development Supervisor.

Working Conditions
· As a YMCA staff person, your hours of work and location may be adjusted due to programming needs. There is no guarantee of the number of hours worked within a work week.
· The YMCA has a Joint Health and Safety Committee which meets every month to discuss health and safety within the workplace. Questions or concerns about your workplace must be brought forward to committee members.
· In this role, you will be required to work in an environment which is often busy with high levels of noise.
· As a YMCA staff, you are responsible for your own travel to and from work.
· You are responsible for the member/client's safety daily. You will be required to perform first aid and CPR when and if necessary and you are certified to do so.
