Maintaining our provincial infrastructure is no small job.
The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia's 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges. During the winter season, our Highway Operations Division operates 24/7; managing various programs and activities throughout our province, including snow and ice control services.
This is your opportunity to support and ensure safe road network conditions throughout your assigned area.
As the Winter Supervisor of Maintenance, you are responsible for supervising snow and ice control activities. We rely on your expert planning and organizational skills to assist with the effective use of equipment and resources.
You provide direction, technical support, and daily supervision, all the while monitoring and maintaining department levels of service. You will assist in the planning and coordination of routes, staffing, equipment assignments and repair, and oversee work on job sites. You ensure stocks of road salt and traction sand are replenished daily. In addition, you may also conduct preliminary site investigations, prepare cost estimates, and inspect maintenance contracts.

Consistently, you maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for client and customer service. Your professional communication skills, both oral and written, are critical in this role.
Experience in a unionized environment and working with time reporting systems and/or work order generation would be considered assets.
As a multi-tasker, you effectively problem solve and make sound decisions in fast-paced environments with competing priorities.

These positions may be subject to shift work and frequent travel.
You will regularly work in excess of scheduled hours and on weekends, often during extreme winter weather conditions.
You may be required to be on 24-hour call during snow and ice control season.
These opportunities are for 17 weeks with an anticipated employment period of December 1, 2024 - March 29, 2025.
Please Note: Successful applicants who are current CUPE regular employees will be appointed as Term employees under the NSGEU Collective Agreement to maintain group benefit entitlements as provided under the CUPE Collective Agreement.
