Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The role provides a high degree of autonomy and will focus on the application of actuarial techniques to a broad spectrum of insurance products.

Role Summary

Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Actuarial Intern will provide contributions to the actuarial group based on knowledge from the actuarial exam system, and prior relevant academic or work experience. They will apply their knowledge to actuarial analysis in the pursuit of solving business problems and answering business questions.

Role Responsibilities

​​​Data Collection

  • ​Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources
  • ​Identify relationships, problems/issues, and assess data quality

​Actuarial and Statistical Methods

  • ​Perform analysis/reviews as assigned
  • ​Incorporate, understand, and transfer knowledge of current methods, while ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • ​Create and validate models to answer business questions as assigned

​Efficiency

  • ​Identify opportunities for automation of routine tasks
  • ​Develop creative new approaches to problem solving

​Communication

  • ​Develop and deliver presentations to the actuarial groups

​Build Business Acumen

  • ​Understanding of both industry and company terminology

​Other

  • ​Perform other duties as assigned/requested by the manager/director

Qualifications

Education

  • ​Pursuing Undergraduate University degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study
  • ​Pursuing FCAS or FCIA designation

​ ​Skills

​Problem Solving

  • ​Ability to apply knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to problems in insurance

​Computer Proficiency

  • ​Ability to translate problem solving methods and ideas to various computer languages efficiently and effectively
  • ​Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • ​Understanding of database systems and how to interpret/extract data from those systems

​Communication

  • ​Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate at the right level of complexity for the audience

​Organization

  • ​Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner

​Teamwork and Leadership

  • ​Works efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment
  • ​Involve others when appropriate
  • ​Ask effective questions to elicit detailed and relevant information
