Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, Primary Health Care, the Dietitian is responsible and accountable to provide competent, safe and ethical professional practice to the patient/client, family, and community. The dietitian advises on diet and food and nutrition across all health sectors. Responsible to provide leadership in team efforts to support the nutritional health of the patient, client/community through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, support and rehabilitation. The dietitian is responsible to participate in the Integrated Dietetic Internship program, including but not limited to, preceptoring Dietetic Interns.

As a member of the inter-professional team the dietitian contributes to client care through collaboration with health care team providers, sharing nutrition expertise, ensuring quality and continuity of care and supporting a range of health care services. These services are provided within a holistic, client centered framework in accordance with our mission, vision, values, and strategic direction.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. Major in Nutrition/Dietetics
  • 1 year of diabetes related experience required. If no applicants meet the one-year experience requirement, applicants with less than one year experience may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of recent related experience in an acute care/community setting
  • Completion of an approved Dietetic internship
  • Licensed with Nova Scotia Dietetic Association
  • Eligible for membership with the Dietitians of Canada
  • Certified Diabetes Educator preferred
  • Experience in Primary Healthcare an asset
  • Experience working in a rural setting with diverse client population as asset
  • Current successful completion of a BCLS program is required or willingness to obtain
  • Demonstrated accountability

  • Demonstrated communication and conflict resolution skills

Qualifications cont.

  • Familiarity with principles of Motivational interviewing
  • Demonstrated good attendance in current and past employment
  • Exemplary work history as demonstrated in current and past employment
  • Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Long assignment full-time position (approx., 7-month term); 75 hours bi-weekly.
  • Shifts include days. May include evenings and weekends (or other specific hours of shifts)
  • Travel to various sites may be required

Compensation and Incentives

$32.30 - $42.58 Hourly
