Your Opportunity

  • Develop and lead execution of yearly snow production plans and goals which have a direct impact on guest experience
  • Manage and maintain operating and capital budgets with focus on sustainability and cost mitigation through efficiencies and technology
  • Develop and continually update a detailed 10-year Capital plan and budget for improvement of Snowmaking Infrastructure, on hill equipment, and in cooperation with fleet, snow control
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to purchase equipment, provide training and ongoing service and support. Oversee all snowmaking equipment installation.
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date maintenance schedule for all snowmaking infrastructure and equipment, including but not limited to; High Voltage service and equipment, Air compressors and Vertical turbine water pumps and their high pressure buried and exposed infrastructure, and on hill equipment repairs.
  • Ensure all TSSA inspections are up to date
  • Coordinate with certified contracted service providers to complete all maintenance and repairs to the snowmaking system, following TSSA guidelines, ESA regulations, and all related OHSA regulations while on site.
  • Work in cooperation with Watershed to ensure all water Taking Permits are completed and up to date
  • Coordinate development and implementation of departmental policies, manuals, SOPS, training practices, and schedules
  • Assist with the snow removal of all Conservation Halton roads and parking lots and walkways, ensure daily records of plowing/salting/sanding are completed
  • Manage the Turf maintenance schedule for the Ski Hill through liaison with the CH turf maintenance team
  • Lead a team of Equipment Operator/Snowmakers seasonally. Coordinate all hiring, training, scheduling, payroll, coaching, conflict resolution and day to day operational support.
  • Assist with equipment operation, event set-up/takedown, trail maintenance, and any other duties as assigned during the off season

Your Qualifications

  • College Diploma or University Undergraduate Degree in related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in outdoor operation and ski hill operation, snowmaking, grooming, turf maintenance, plowing
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in understanding of snowmaking, snow production and job-related awareness
  • Strong leadership & communication skills to support staffing and budget responsibility. Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in heavy machine operations (Groomers, Tractors, Skid Steers etc.)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience operating heavy equipment, utility and off-road vehicles (snowmobile, ATV, gator) is required
  • Technical understanding and advanced troubleshooting of a large variety of snowmaking hydrants, tower guns, sled guns, hose, valves, and inline filters
  • Technical understanding of air and water distribution systems
  • Technical understanding of basic troubleshooting of electrical and hydraulic system, high horsepower vertical turbine water pumps, and high horsepower industrial rotary-screw type air compressors
  • Technical understanding and troubleshooting of various sizes of power equipment
  • Experience operating various hand tools
  • Ability to adapt to the daily challenges associated with outdoor operations. Resourceful with strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Successful candidate will be required to have Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • High level of competence with software-based solutions across multiple operating systems
  • MS Office, Edge Auditor, Dayforce, custom data tracking software, weather stations
  • A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class "G", with a satisfactory Driver's Abstract is required. *Abstract completed by Conservation Halton.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work evenings, weekends & holidays. This role will be required to be available at times outside of regularly scheduled work hours to attend meetings, events and/or be available to respond to inquiries and other communication.
