What you will be doing

  • Assist in the development, implementation and supervision of a diversified camp program in cooperation with the Program Supervisor.

  • Provide an inclusive camp experience which includes working with participants with different needs (i.e. children with disabilities, children with behavior challenges, newcomers, and language barriers).

  • Assist with preparation of program outlines, daily activities and special events, program supplies and additional programming requirements for camp staff.

  • Acts as on-site lead when Camp Supervisor is off site.

  • Provide direction and ongoing coaching to enhance front-line staff program knowledge, teaching techniques and program planning skills. Ensure front-line staff follow safety standards and established procedures.

  • Effectively and promptly communicate with the Recreation Coordinator staff concerning all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies, or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of day-to-day operations.

  • Inform the Recreation Coordinator daily of customer feedback, staff performance, and facility and program items. Immediately and effectively respond to program and staff concerns.

  • Act as a knowledgeable resource to parents, participants, volunteers and leaders.

  • Assist Camp Supervisor in responding to program, parent, or staff concerns, liase with parents providing effective customer service

  • Assist with the arrival and or departure of campers. Maintain and assist with accurate administrative, attendance, and medical records for all camps.

  • Assist the Recreation Coordinator with end of season administrative responsibilities as needed (program summary and recommendation, inventories.) Assist with the preparation and administering of staff evaluation as required.

  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.

  • Assist with liaising with Aquatics Staff regarding swim programming, and acting as a swim buddy in the water during camp swims as required

  • Assists in covering in program as camp leader and inclusion support as required

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of July and August camp programs, to a maximum of 44 hours. Hours vary based on program registration numbers.

  • Attend mandatory trainings, that occur during evenings and weekends throughout May and June.

  • Attend mandatory bi-weekly staff meetings that may occur outside of camp hours.

Education

  • Completion of Secondary School Diploma

  • Behaviour Management Systems and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is considered an asset

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum 1-2 years camp related experience

  • Knowledge of program planning including crafts, games, sports, music, and specialty themed programming

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to plan, organize and lead, coach, and motivate staff in a team environment

  • Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote a positive team culture

Safeguard Training (or willingness to obtain as a condition of offer)

Current and valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.
Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.
High Five-PHCD Certificate & Standard First Aid, CPR C AED Certificate
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour

Rate of pay

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $20.00.

Hours of work

May 1 - August 29, 2025

  • Up to 40 hours per week *hours dependent on weekly registrations at location*

  • Mandatory training between May 1 - June 29

  • Camp starts on Monday June 30 and ends on Friday August 29

  • Camp does not run on July 1 (Canada Day) or August 4 (Civic Holiday)

  • Mandatory paid training dates/sessions will occur in May/June and mandatory weekly evening staff meetings in July and August, as scheduled by the Recreation Coordinator. Please note that training dates are subject to change.
