Job Profile

The Event and Community Engagement Coordinator reports to the Director, Mayor/Council Office and is responsible for coordinating events and engagement within the Office of the Mayor and Council. This position plays a pivotal role in fostering positive relationships between the Mayor/Council office and the residents of Cambridge. This position is responsible for developing and implementing outreach initiatives, managing communication channels (social and newsletter), and engaging with the community to promote civic involvement, awareness of municipal services, and administer and promote key special events within the Mayor/Council office projects. This role will be instrumental in running Mayor/Council events such as the Winter Levee, Oktoberfest and various community parades.

What you will be doing

  • Coordinate Office of the Mayor news releases, social media, webpage, newsletters and email.

  • Manage and grow communication channels such as the departmental webpage, social media platforms, newsletters, and press releases to ensure timely and relevant information.

  • Create engaging content for various communication mediums, including written materials, graphics, videos, and presentations, to effectively convey mayor's messages and updates.

  • Take the initiative to serve as a liaison between the office and community organizations, neighborhood groups, schools, and businesses to facilitate partnerships and collaboration on community-focused projects.

  • Identifies opportunities to promote initiatives through public relations/outreach events/networking.

  • Act as a resource person to community members and be the contact person to resident-led groups, agencies and broader public sector resources.

  • Oversee the Mayor's office Promotional Program.

  • Plan and Lead Events: Design, coordinate, and execute community-focused events, including Mayor's Levee, Oktoberfest lunch, Mayor's State of the City. Responsible for coordinating/registering the Mayor/Council office in other events such as Canada Day and Santa Parades (including preparing the float).

  • Work with the Director to develop Corporate Sponsorships: Identify, connect and secure sponsorships with local businesses, corporations, and organizations to help grow the events out of the Mayor/Council office.

  • Engagement in Community events: Travel with Mayor/Council members, when required, at various local events and festivals, creating opportunities for program promotion, social media content, and community engagement.

  • Flex your creative brain by designing and assisting to assemble parade floats, pop-up events etc.

Education

3-year College Diploma in Communications or related field, such as Public Relations, Creative Advertising, Journalism, and Business Marketing.

Experience and Knowledge

A minimum of three (3) years of experience in communications, public relations, political office or a related field. Previous municipal experience would be an asset.

  • Proven experience in event planning and execution.

  • Strong background in securing corporate sponsorships and building community partnerships.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and outreach programs simultaneously.

  • Proficient in project management, with strong attention to detail and a solution-oriented mindset.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling, community-focused content.

  • Knowledge of digital marketing and social media best practices.

  • Passion for community engagement is a plus.

  • Advanced computer skills including expertise with internet, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

  • High degree of professionalism, strong political acumen and tact and customer service orientation. (Political experience would be an asset)

  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and changing priorities.

  • Experience with Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, Adobe Premier Pro and video work preferred

  • Experience in communications planning, media relations, issues management and project management.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and prioritize projects.

Valid G driver's license.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour

Your compensation

Annual salary range of $84,066 to $102,521 (Non-Union Salary Grid, Level 4, 2025 rates). Comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, and travel benefits. Enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

Hours of work

Standard hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some evenings and weekends as required.

This position is located in-person at Cambridge City Hall - 50 Dickson Street.
