The Economic Development Division is responsible for a variety of programs and services to support the economic development of Ontario and staff work with farmers, agri-businesses, municipalities, and other partners in the agriculture and rural sectors to identify opportunities, adopt new technologies and make sound business decisions. The Economic Development Division is responsible for expanding Ontario's food and agricultural sales in export and domestic markets, and providing support to the processing industry through investment attraction, investment retention and sector development.
The Rural Programs Branch leads the Economic Development Division's effort to support rural Ontario in building strong, vital communities with diversified economies and healthy social and environmental climates. The branch works collaboratively with rural communities, municipalities, businesses and organizations to undertake economic development initiatives by providing an array of funding support.

What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role you will: • provide advice and consultation to applicants with respect to policy and operational guidelines for operational and capital transfer payment funding programs • analyze applications for funding for programs that support Ontario's agri-food sector and economic development in rural communities • monitor project progress, negotiate and manage client expectations • work closely with other ministry staff to support accountable program administration • develop and maintain consultative linkage with client groups and networks, staff of other divisions and ministries, other governments
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
You must possess oral and written French language skills at the advanced level. Your proficiency level will be confirmed before hire.
Transfer Payment Program Knowledge:
• You have advanced knowledge of the design, implementation, operation and monitoring of transfer payment programs. • You have knowledge of program governance best practices and policy development process. • You have knowledge of the theories and practices related to agri-food and rural development. • You have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as they apply to transfer payment program design and delivery. • You have knowledge to evaluate financial reports.
Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:
• You have strong analytical and problem solving skills to assess factual information, research and evaluate agri-food and rural development initiatives and to provide comments on policies and programs. • You can assess applications for funding against set objectives and priorities and internal compliance requirements
Communication skills:
• You have very good oral communication and presentation skills to provide information in a clear and concise manner. • You have proven written communications skills to prepare a variety of reports and correspondence.
Interpersonal Skills:
• You have interpersonal and networking skills to build and establish effective working relationships with internal and external clients. • You have negotiation skills to gain buy-in on ministry objectives. • You have strong customer-service skills and political acuity to understand clients' needs and provide effective client management.
