JOB SUMMARY

The Aquatics Supervisor will oversee the delivery of Aquatics programs such as swimming lessons, rec & lane swim, rentals and aquatics events. This position will also assist with related Aquatics administration functions and provide leadership and direction to part-time Aquatics Staff and volunteers at an assigned aquatics facility.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As part of the Aquatics team, this position provides a safe and secure environment for patrons and staff
  • Opens and closes the facility in accordance with opening and closing procedures.
  • Monitors staff instruction and guarding to maintain program quality.
  • Assists with part­time Aquatics staff and volunteers with decision making, troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Carries out and acts as a role model for required Aquatic Instructors and Lifeguard performance standards.
  • Provides "hands on" leadership with planning, implementing and evaluating pool programs and Aquatic services and provides suggestions for improvement to the Community Program Coordinator.
  • On a daily basis, provides direct feedback to part­time Lifeguards and Aquatic Instructors both verbally and in writing as required.
  • Provides quality customer service by answering inquiries while on duty and resolves day to day customer/patron engagement issues.
  • Supervises the pool/deck environment to ensure the safety of all patrons and staff.
  • Ensures National and Provincial standards are followed by Aquatic staff for lifeguarding techniques and swimming instruction.
  • Competently administers emergency procedures for the facility.
  • Administrative tasks include monitoring and keeping records.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Attending or has graduated from high school
  • Minimum one year experience in a similar role
  • Sports Events experience considered an asset
  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • Current Lifesaving Society "Life Saving Instructor"
  • Lifesaving Society "Swim Instructor"
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification
  • Current Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid (with AED)
  • Current Airway Management
  • Aquatics Supervisor Training (AST)
  • Lifesaving Society Examiners is recommended and considered an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the methods, standards, regulations, tools and equipment in instructing/lifeguarding.
  • Ability and fitness level to perform life guarding and rescue skills to standard.
  • Good customer service and communication (written and verbal) skills to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to lead staff and work tactfully as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Enjoys working with people of all ages.

Note: All qualifications must be current from the beginning to the last day of each session. Qualifications that are due to expire during a session must be re-certified prior to the start of the season and staff will be required to provide proof of registration for the re-certification.
