Are you a student with a passion for art, and a desire to gain experience working with children? We're on the lookout for a Program Counselor to join our team. Work with creative instructors to help facilitate fun, and educational art activities in an inspiring, and inclusive environment. Weekends, and holidays are required.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with instructors to help deliver high-quality children’s art programs
  • Provide excellent customer service, and prioritize health and safety of all staff
  • Act as the first point of contact for parents/guardians; Assist with participant sign-in, and sign out and follow all City of Markham protocols
  • Supervise children during art-making activities assisting them as needed; Facilitate some educational art activities, including games
  • Prepare art materials, and set up studio facility as required; Clean and maintain studios, sinks, and art storage
  • Maintain attendance records, health and safety information, and personal timesheets.
  • Demonstrate the confidence, and ability to make decisions in the best interests of participants
  • Effectively problem-solve to resolve conflicts as they arise.
  • Report all incidents to the Art Instructor, and complete all required safety forms
  • Complete all mandatory training through the City of Markham, and the Varley Art Gallery
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age is 16
  • Passion for visual arts, education, early childhood education or art history an asset.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holiday; commit to 10 week courses
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Leadership capacity is an asset (i.e. student or youth council member, previous experience
  • Previous camp experience is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR 'C' is required (mandatory)
  • HIGH FIVE Healthy Child Development certificate is required (mandatory)
  • Completed Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from local police dept. (mandatory)
