Job Summary
In this position, you will plan, organize, instruct and evaluate basic fundamental movement skills through badminton. You will also be responsible for ensuring a positive and safe environment for participants and peers.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates, leads and supervises the program
  • Organizes and writes lesson plans to be handed in by week two of the program
  • Develops lesson plans specific to the abilities of each group. Reviews lesson plans with the Recreation Supervisor/ Program Coordinator prior to class and submits at the end of each session.
  • Prepares and organizes program equipment and supplies, maintaining an inventory of supplies, reporting to the Program Coordinator/ Recreation Supervisor any items needing replacement
  • Meets with parents (if needed) prior to, or after class time
  • Directly guides volunteers and part time Program Assistants as required
  • Advises Program Coordinator/ Recreation Supervisor of any customer service issues, complaints or inquiries
  • Ensures safety at ALL times, enforcing safety regulations as set out by the City of Markham policies and procedures
  • Adheres to the principles of Healthy Child Development (children ages 6 to 12 years)
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma
  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR 'C'
  • Pursuing post-secondary training in Sports an asset
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma an asset
  • Minimum 2 years combined previous experience working with children and or adults in an instructional sports setting in badminton
  • Successful completion of High Five Certificate and adherence to the principles of Healthy Child Development (children ages 6 to 12 years)
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Able to deal tactfully with customers
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good computer skills (MS Office) and ability to learn new software
