Summary:
The City of Markham, Canada's high-tech capital, is experiencing significant growth. As a result, the Development Services Commission is looking for a university/graduate student who is a dedicated self-starter to work in our fast-paced environment by assisting in the engineering review process of development engineering applications. The successful candidate will assist in the coordination, review, and data management of development applications. This position will support the review team through the creation of City documents and correspondence. This position reports to the designated Development Engineer.

This position will assist in the day-to-day needs of the Development Review business unit within the Engineering Department.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Interact with landowners, developers, consulting firms, external agencies and internal City Service departments.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Assist with preparing process documentation and training.
  • Update corporate databases related to development applications.
  • Assist with application coordination and review.
  • Data entry and analysis for development applications.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled at a post-secondary institution in Civil Engineering or a related field of study.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, and Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical plans, maps, and drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of street furniture and municipal services (signs, streetlights, catch basins, fire hydrants, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, service connections, etc.).
  • A valid class "G" driver's license and use of vehicle is required.
  • Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7 Training would be considered an asset.

Duration and Hours:

  • Beginning of May to end of August 2025
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours per week (excluding holidays)

Location:

  • On-site at the City of Markham office at 101 Town Centre Boulevard, Markham, ON
  • Occasionally, site visits to verify field conditions or perform inspections.
