The Role:

This position plays a critical role in maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Diagnostics labs in Markham. The Lab Manager will manage our DIAGs labs to world class standard and will ensure that all lab projects and requests are completed in a timely manner. Bring-ups are one of the most exciting phases of the product life cycle. The lab manager will organize and prepare the Diagnostics lab for bring up and post silicon execution. The Person:

A successful candidate will have solid knowledge of how engineering labs are managed. The lab manager needs to be highly organized and a methodical lab space planner to allocate test stations that meet each program's demands. Must be able to travel by vehicle (10-15 minutes’ drive) between Markham’s AMD Sites and have a valid driver’s license. The candidate must have some technical background and interpersonal confidence to manage the Diagnostics labs and enable the facility to meet our aggressive roadmap demands. Additionally, previous experience in lab management is an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides Diagnostics Lab Management Services to meet project execution schedule and requests by the Diagnostic Engineers/Program Managers.
  • Maintain & Organize lab infrastructure.
  • Provide end to end ownership for space planning, equipment and infrastructure purchases and setup of new and existing Diagnostic labs to execute simultaneous roadmap programs.
  • Engage with Facilities for installation of work benches, racks, test farms, lighting, equipment installations, space modification and other building related needs in the labs.
  • Be an advocate for lab safety and maintain housekeeping rules in the lab.
  • Must maintain space efficiency in the labs.
  • Drive standardized, best practices and processes across all Diagnostic labs.
  • Lead optimization efforts for maximum utilization of space, power, and cooling.
  • Ensure all Diagnostics labs conform to ISO ESD standard and pass all internal and external lab inspection/ISO audits.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality controls, equipment calibration, capital equipment asset tagging/tracking, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), and preventative maintenance.
  • Use asset management systems to update locations of test equipment.
  • Maintain test equipment and ESD calibrations.
  • Schedule and perform a quarterly joint lab inspection with the Site EHS Representative. Will also submit EHS checklist to Site EHS Rep every month.
  • Use Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to understand potential safety hazards/recommendations for common tasks in the lab. Will also work with the Site EHS Representative to develop and update JSAs when changes occur.
  • Enforce all AMD, Security, IT, and EHS policies in the labs.
  • The DIAGs Lab Manager must respond to incidents that happen within their lab.
  • Approve/Remove user access to the lab and maintain access list of lab users in their area.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior Lab Management experience of managing a sophisticated and professional engineering lab.
  • Python, C++ and SQL while not required but highly preferred.
  • Experience in using an asset management system for tracking systems, monitor system health, and lab system utilization.
  • Proven interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and project planning & execution skills.
  • Experience in setting up and configuring server racks and benches.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced technical organization and multi-site environment.
  • Must have Space Planning & Project Management skills.
  • Good knowledge of Engineering Lab Test Equipment
  • Hands-on experience, analytical & systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of 6S, EHS, ISO9001 and other best practice measurements.
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows OS and Office.
