JOB SUMMARY

This position assists with general and specialized maintenance throughout the property. Daily duties include the maintenance and operation of the Civic Centre exterior water features. NSPF (National Swimming Pool Foundation) Certified Pool Operator certification is required. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that the water features are running at optimal performance.
  • Test water quality to ensure they are at acceptable levels.
  • Complete necessary maintenance and adjustments to ensure pool chemistry is balanced.
  • Notifies Facility Coordinator of Maintenance issues.
  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance (i.e. pressure washing, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, painting, staining, snow shoveling, garbage pickup, detail cleaning, setups and breakdowns of tables and chairs).
  • Performs handy person jobs including minor plumbing, electrical, painting.
  • Operates power tools, cleaning and safety equipment.
  • Responds to requests from patrons (general public) and other City of Markham staff on general facility issues and or maintenance requests.
  • Patrols various buildings looking for facility problems, safety hazards, or improper departmental operations. Is responsible for the security of the building.
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are being followed by patrons and other maintenance staff as applicable

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Secondary School diploma.
  • One year experience in facility operations and maintenance.
  • Experience with associated materials, equipment operations, and maintenance procedures associated with a commercial facility environment.
  • Ability to complete basic plumbing, electrical, IRU's and carpentry.
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Propane Handling and Working at Heights are considered assets.
  • Excellent customer service, teamwork and organization skills are required, as is the ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be physically able to perform the bona fide requirements of the job. This position involves occasional heavy lifting.
  • Must possess a valid class 'G' Ontario driver's license. As a condition of employment, you will be required to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract (No demerit points plus no more than 2 infractions - maximum of one moving and one non-moving conviction).
