Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Transit Infrastructure Planning, this position is responsible for the management of Transit's facilities and stations/terminals, ensuring that day-to-day operational functions are maintained and to manage these assets throughout the life cycle process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and oversees renovation, rehabilitation and expansion projects as related to life cycle and asset management priorities for Transit's facilities and stations/terminals
  • Provides technical expertise and input to Transit facility new builds
  • Creates and updates MiWay's 10-year capital facility infrastructure program while managing annual budgets as related to growth requirements, asset deficiencies and life cycle requirements
  • Coordinates with internal City staff and external stakeholders to ensure design and construction processes are in compliance with existing agreements and develop new agreements as required
  • Undertakes research on new and current technologies, methods and approaches to identify recommendations for facility infrastructure improvements
  • Implements processes as per MiWay's Asset Management Program to ensure optimization of MiWay's assets
  • Coordinates construction/maintenance facility projects with internal City departments, contractors, inspectors, etc.
  • Reviews detail design drawings to protect for transit facility requirements
  • Provides technical guidance and training to co-op students, provides quality assurance/quality control for field monitoring and site evaluation activities and assist with performance evaluation and hiring
  • Responds to complaints and inquiries related to Transit's facilities and stations/terminals
  • Proactively attends to all health and safety issues
  • Liases with internal City staff to ensure collaborative and effective use of City resources
  • Responds to transit facility infrastructure related incidents, which may occur outside of regular operating hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary graduate from a recognized university with a degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related engineering program and a registered P. Eng. designation in good standing with the PEO (or eligibility), or
  • Post-secondary graduate from a Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering Technology or related Applied Science Technology program with a C.E.T. designation in good standing with OACETT (or eligibility);
  • 5-8 years of progressive municipal transit infrastructure planning, design and construction experience;
  • Municipal transportation/transit asset management experience related to the implementation of asset management programs, including inventory maintenance, condition assessments and multi-year capital program development;
  • Ability to effectively coordinate, direct or supervise transit facility infrastructure project;
  • Strong computer skills/aptitude in suite of Microsoft Office software, Microstation (or AutoCAD), database management and transit specific applications (e.g., Hastus, iBus, Trapeze) would be beneficial;
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively handle residents, contractors, developers, utility companies, external agencies and other stakeholders;
  • Demonstration of tact and diplomacy with the public and elected officials;
  • Effective decision making and problem solving skills with the ability to determine an effective course of action that drives progression;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing tasks;
  • A proven ability to lead meetings and discussions, prepare presentations, and represent the section, division or department at public meetings;
  • Excellent analytical and decision making skills matched by strong attention to detail;
  • Potential for field work and exposure to the elements;
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required; and
  • A current valid Glass G driver's license, possession of a clear driving record and have the ability to travel between various City sites.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 47.72 - $ 63.63
