Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Transit Facilities, this position is responsible for the management of the Transit Infrastructure Planning Team (Facilities) and the roll-out of strategic (immediate and long-term) plans for transit stations/terminals and operations and maintenance facilities for both MiWay customers and MiWay staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing leadership and technical sdirection to the Transit Infrastructure Planning team.
  • Managing performance of direct reports, coordinating work loads, supervising quality and production.
  • Programming, managing, coordinating and completing transit facility strategic plans, new facility design and construction projects and life-cycle facility asset management improvements
  • Working closely with other divisions (e.g., Facility Planning and Design, Energy Management and Facility Maintenance, Works Operations and Maintenance, Realty, Legal, etc.) to ensure the success of facility projects and ensuring proper communication, high standards of work quality and organization performance
  • Reviewing, tracking, evaluating and reporting on consultants and/or contractors progress as it relates to the delivery of the planning and design projects and client stakeholder progress reviews.
  • Championing MiWay's Assest Management Plan to meet Corporate and Provincial requirements and implementing the asset management strategy.
  • Providing expert advice in developing and integrating new organizational models to eliminate information and process redundancies.
  • Tact and diplomacy to deal with internal as well as external stakeholders, including staff from other teams within MiWay, other City departments, Council, special interest groups and the public
  • Requires strategic agility, business acumen, relationships building, developing culture and people and driving change
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare decision-oriented reports and correspondence at a high professional level
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • A registered member in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • A minimum of five (5) years of municipal/public sector or consulting experience with progressive experience in building design
  • Previous work experience with the MOE Municipal Class Environmental (EA) process, detailed design studies and construction management
  • Project management best practices and experience in overseeing large projects, conceptualizing issues and developing options with experience in quality control, documentation, budget control, and consistency in meeting deadlines with excellent organizational skills
  • Proven leadership in moving initiatives forward through negotiation and business acumen
  • Ability to work with inter-disciplinary teams to find an optimal balance of technical, operational and design aspects with respect to transit projects
  • Ability to build relationships with key internal/external stakeholders including the development and delivery of presentations of a technical and/or political nature
  • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities to identify patterns of complex problems/issues to find the optimal solutions in fast pacing work environment, including the ability to synthesize data from observed, modelled and/or planning data/schedules
  • Superior communications skills, written and verbal, to be able to communicate effectively with excellent presentation and report-writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for facilitating relationships among teams and with groups of experts and professionals
  • Proven political acumen with the public, media, political representatives, diverse community stakeholders, and staff at all levels of an organization
  • Experience with supervising contractors and providing functional guidance to staff
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation, and ArcGIS or similar software
  • Experience using some or all of the following would be an asset: Hastus, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Synchro, VISSIM and related traffic modelling and simulation software
  • Understanding and application of codes and systems as related to the operations of Transit's facilities (e.g., building and fire code, electrical safety codes, Building Automation systems, Facility Asset Management Systems, etc.) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of legislation related to health, safety and the environment (e.g., the Occupational Health and Safety Act) would be an asset
  • A valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license is required to travel to various site locations

Hourly Rate/Salary: $47.72 - $63.63
