12 Month Contract
The Newmarket Public Library is looking for a pro-active and customer-focused Library Assistant I to work part-time hours in Library Services. The Library Assistant I will assist Circulation Services by providing prompt and courteous service related to greeting visitors and serving or referring to appropriate staff, checking material in and out, borrower registration, collecting fines, shelving materials, explaining and enforcing related library policies and other duties as assigned.
Formal academic education or courses at a secondary school graduate level in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of word processing applications such as Microsoft Word.
Experience in a public library environment is an asset.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and customer service skills to interact with a diverse client.
Ability to operate general office equipment, such as photocopier, and telephone reception system.
Ability to lift and carry library materials and equipment up to 50 lbs approximately and to push and pull full book trucks which may involved bending and reaching.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures.
Ability to work as a team member and independently.
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
